The Southern Alleghenies Workforce Development Board (SAWDB) supports a range of services to help employers search for qualified employees, coordinate with education providers on emerging training needs, and train incumbent workers.
Through the PA CareerLink® one-stop system, employers can advertise open positions. Trained PA CareerLink ® staff will work to pre-qualify and refer potential applicants and possibly offer financial assistance, in the form of on-the-job training, for new hires who qualify for Workforce Investment Act programs. An important pre-qualification tool is the WorkKeys® Career Readiness Certificate assessment. The SAWDB is a licensed provider of this nationally recognized assessment that measures the potential employee’s skills in applied math, reading for information, and locating information.
The SAWDB supports industry consortia across the region. These industry-driven initiatives promote cooperation among business sectors and also facilitate direct contact with training providers, giving the employer community the opportunity to communicate directly with educational institutions and provide valuable input into curriculum development. This in turn helps to support the development of a pipeline of qualified candidates for future openings.
The training of incumbent workers is a key employer service supported by the SAWDB through targeted industry cluster grant opportunities and workshops hosted by the PA CareerLink® system.
